The Three Peaks Challenge 2017!

The band of the West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, and its members, have a proud heritage of supporting charities and performing for the benefit of others in the community. The band have played numerous of our own charity concerts as well as being part of bigger events run by others.

In 2015, eleven members of the band decided on a whole new challenge! They cycled 140 miles coast to coast from Whitehaven to Tynemouth, raising £3000 for a number of charities. You can read about the full challenge here.

Two years on, and it’s time for our next big thing! In June, Two members of the band, Ros and Katie have decided to lead our 2017 challenge, and take 16 members of the band across the Yorkshire three peaks, in 12 hours!

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. These peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The route is 24-miles long, and includes 5,200ft (1,585m) of ascent.

Roger Lumb. 1948 - 2016

This year’s challenge, will be in memory of a very dear friend of the band. Roger Lumb was one of the band’s longest serving members. He sadly passed away in the summer of 2016. You can read more about him here. Ros and Katie have spoken with Roger’s family, and all the fundraising for this year’s challenge will be donated to the Fire Fighters Charity. It’s a charity which was always close to Roger’s heart, and is of course one of the bands preferred charity.

We have set an initial target for the challenge of £2000, but of course we’d love to be able to raise more. If you would like to donate and give the walkers some more encouragement then you can do this, either via PayPal, or via Just Giving. By using Just Giving you enable the charity to be able to recover GiftAid which isn't possible with Paypal. Please click one of the links below.

Any amount you can give is really appreciated, and 100% of all donations will go to the charity. All the costs of the challenge are being met by the individuals participating. If you'd like to know more about the great work of the  Fire Fighters Charity, then please click the link at the bottom of the page.

Thank you – and please keep coming back to check on progress!!!
